Richard Batista, MD: I attended and graduated SUNY Stony Brook with a B.S. in Biology from 9/77-6/81. There after I attended and graduated the Cornell University Medical College with a MD degree from 9/81-6/85. After completing my MD degree, I completed a five year General Surgery residency from the North Shore University Medical Center, Manhasset, NY from 7/85-6/90. I then completed a one year Vascular fellowship at the Westchester County/Metropolitan Hospital Medical centers from 7/90-6/91. I then briefly entered private practice for approximately six months only to eventually enter the Nassau County Medical Center in February 1992. I have been a full time faculty attending since February 1992 as a General and Vascular Surgeon covering such specialties in addition to General and Vascular Surgery as Trauma, Endoscopic, Laporscopic and Oncologic surgerys. I also cover Hyperbaric elective and emergent cases on a day to day basis. My primary clinical responsibilities are to provide quality patient care as they are seen and evaluated by way of ER emergencies, In-House consults, Out patient evaluations and subsequent operative interventions and management. My secondary academic responsibilities are to educate and instruct upcoming surgical residents and medical students in the art of pre, post and intraoperative management of patients with acute, chronic and traumatic disease. As a full time faculty attending with in the department of surgery, I am also responsible to provide up to date didactic sessions covering various topics in General, Vascular and Trauma surgery. I am currently Board Certified in General Surgery with additional certifications as a ATLS instructor. I also Chair the Nutrition Committee and have various publications including: Aorto-Iliac Reconstruction in the Obese patients, True Venous Aneurisms and Arterial Steal Secondary to AV Fistulae for Hemodialysis, Transposition Muscle flaps for Infected Infra-Inguinal Vascular graft, Changes is Venous Histology in Chronic Hemodialysis Patients, and Successful Treatment of Portal Venous Gas Embolism with Hyperbaric Oxygen after Accidental Ingestion of Hydrogen Peroxide.
