Physician Bio: Marcelle M. Morcos MD, FACS, Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Director of the Residency Training program at Nassau University Medical Center. Dr. Morcos also serves as the Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Ophthalmology at NUMC. Dr. Morcos specializes in anterior segment, cataract and trauma. Dr. Morcos is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the State University of New York School of Medicine at Stony Brook. She is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Morcos graduated from Cairo University Medical School in Egypt and completed her Ophthalmology Residency at Nassau University Medical Center in 1980. After her residency Dr. Morcos developed a very successful practice taking care of patients in Queens and Long Island. She became the Program Director of ophthalmology at Nassau University Medical Center in 1999 and in 2001 was named the Chief of the Division of Ophthalmology. Under her strong leadership, this small division under the auspices of the Department of Surgery became an independent Department in 2007 of which she is its first Chairman. In 2011, the Department moved into a brand new, state of the art Eye Center that serves the community seeing well over 11,000 patients a year. Dr. Morcos is dedicated to patient care and vision reservation, as well as medical education. She has published numerous articles and frequently presents at national and state scientific and professional meetings. She has received numerous accolades on a national and international level, to mention few Americas Top Ophthalmologist by Consumers research council, Who's who in Executive and professional Women in teaching and Education, Cambridge Who's Who Executive and Professionals and Entrepreneurial Registry. She was selected as Top Ophthalmologist in NY by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals for 2013. Dr. Morcos has mentored and trained Over 130 ophthalmologists in her tenure as Chairman and Program Director and these clinicians and scientists are now leaders at academic institutions and in practices not only in the US but around the world. |
