Physician Bio: Lynn A. Schaefer, Ph.D., ABPP is Director of Neuropsychology at Nassau University Medical Center in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). She is also a supervising psychologist for the APA-approved Psychology internship in the Division of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. Dr. Schaefer earned her Ph.D. from the City University of New York, in the Neuropsychology subprogram, and is board certified in clinical neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. She holds academic appointments as Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and Assistant Professor of Clinical PM&R at Stony Brook School of Medicine. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN). Dr. Schaefer served as President of the Neuropsychology Division of the New York State Psychological Association in 2011, after serving a three-year term as Treasurer. Nationally, Dr. Schaefer has been on the Education Committee of NAN, and presently serves on the Women in Neuropsychology (WIN) subcommittee of APA’s Society for Clinical Neuropsychology (Division 40). She is currently the Secretary of the New York State Association of Neuropsychology (NYSAN). Her clinical and research interests include the assessment and remediation of TBI and dementia. She has published journal articles and book chapters in these areas and has presented her research and cases at professional meetings. Dr. Schaefer is a journal reviewer for Psychology and Aging and Neuropsychology, and is a grant reviewer for the Alzheimer’s Association. She is also a Brain Injury Association of America certified brain injury specialist trainer (CBIST).
